"Brought in my grandfather's Seiko 5 for a full overhaul — it hadn't been touched in probably fifteen years. The written estimate arrived before anything was done, which I appreciated. Three weeks later I collected it running tidier than it ever has in my memory. The service record is something I'll keep with the watch."

"Had the dial cleaning service done on a watch I wear for work every day. The difference in legibility is considerable — the lume dots are properly visible again. The condition note explained exactly what was done and noted a minor crack in the crystal that I wasn't aware of. Good to know, and no pressure to do anything about it immediately."
Dial & Hands Refresh · April 2025

"I swim regularly and wanted confidence that my dive watch's seals were still doing their job. The pressure test result came back with a proper written report showing the ATM rating. That's the kind of documentation you don't usually get from a watch shop. Will be back annually for the same service."

"What I noticed first was the patience. I asked a lot of questions during the assessment and nothing was rushed. The watchmaker explained what he found clearly and without technical jargon until I asked for more detail. The overhaul itself was thorough — the follow-up accuracy check two weeks after collection confirmed everything had settled well."

"Came in not entirely sure whether the piece needed a full service or just the dial work. The assessment helped me understand the difference clearly. I went with the dial refresh first, which made sense for the budget. The workshop was straightforward about what they saw and what could wait."

"The humidity care advice that came with the seal service was genuinely useful — I hadn't thought about storing the watch properly during the rainy season. Small thing, but it shows the workshop thinks beyond the immediate job."

A Few Stories from the Workshop
Case Study 01 · Full Overhaul
A Hand-Wound Watch Left Unworn for a Decade
Challenge
An owner inherited a hand-wound dress watch last stored in the late 2010s. It would not run for more than a few hours after winding, and the mainspring was suspected to be weak or broken. The owner was uncertain whether the piece was worth servicing.
Service
A full overhaul was carried out after the assessment confirmed a fatigued mainspring and dried-out lubrication throughout. The mainspring was renewed, all parts ultrasonically cleaned, fresh lubricants applied, and the movement regulated in five positions.
Outcome
The watch now runs to within ±8 seconds per day — within the design tolerance for the calibre. The owner received a full service record and chose to have the seal renewed separately as a second step, knowing the watch was now worth wearing.
"I half expected to be told it wasn't worth fixing. Instead I got a clear-eyed assessment, a fair estimate, and a watch I now wear regularly."
Case Study 02 · Seal Renewal
A Dive Watch Worn in the Gulf Without Recent Seal Maintenance
Challenge
A diver brought in a watch worn regularly in the Gulf of Thailand. He couldn't recall the last time the seals had been checked and was concerned after noticing minor fogging on the crystal interior following a deep dive.
Service
The caseback was opened to find deteriorated gaskets. Crown, caseback, and crystal seals were all renewed. A pressure test showed the case now achieves its rated water resistance. The case exterior was cleaned and the owner received a written pressure test report.
Outcome
The internal fogging resolved within 24 hours of the seals being renewed — moisture had entered but had not yet caused corrosion. The owner now has an annual reminder to return for a pressure check, with written documentation each time.
"The pressure test result sheet is something I keep with the watch's papers. It's the kind of record I never thought to ask for before."
Case Study 03 · Dial & Hands Refresh
A Daily-Wear Automatic with Obscured Luminous Indices
Challenge
An office worker wore the same automatic daily for over seven years without servicing the dial. Dust and oil had dulled the indices and the hands were increasingly difficult to read in low office lighting.
Service
The dial refresh service cleaned the dial under magnification using methods appropriate to the dial material. Lume condition was assessed — the material was showing age but remained functional. Hand alignment was corrected and the case exterior cleaned.
Outcome
Legibility restored. The lume assessment noted the material would require professional relume within a few years; this was noted in the condition report as something to consider next time, not an immediate requirement.
"It's a working watch, not a collector's piece. But it's easier to read now and knowing the condition of the lume is useful — I'll come back when the time is right."
